Situated on the picturesque Harbour of Tarbert,the Red Herring Seafood Restaurant prides itself on offering the freshest catches, directly sourced by our fisherman. We source local produce and ingredients when available to complement our seafood, supporting our community and ensuring the highest quality.

Our story

‘’The sea has always been a part of our family’s life ‘’ says Jamie McMillan, Co-Director of the restaurant. For generations, the McMillian family have lived and worked here, their lives intimately tied to the rhythm of the sea. The whole family have spent their life fishing these beautiful waters, together they built a successful Shellfish Export company Loch Fyne Langoustines, known for its dedication to sustainable fishing and the freshest catch.

Fellow Director Andy, whose family over a century ago were Herring Fishers, hails from Broughty Ferry. Andy has been involved in Architecture along Argyll’s seaboard for the past 25 years. Blending his deep-rooted connection to the sea with his talent of design he is proud of the restaurant’s warm and inviting atmosphere. A natural conversationalist, Andy loves engaging with our guests, sharing stories from his family’s fishing history, and discussing the journey of the seafood from sea to plate. His enthusiasm for both - great food and good conversation - adds to a truly memorable dining experience, where every meal is infused with the warmth of his personal touch and the rich traditions of he and Jamie’s fishing heritage. Now they are excited to share their passion for seafood with you!

‘’Great food starts with the finest ingredients!’’ Mihail says. We are delighted to introduce our talented head chef Mihail. Having over 15 years experience in producing the finest Seafood Dishes, Mihail’s productions are known for their precision and finesse. He expertly combines traditional techniques with innovative touches, creating seafood dishes that are both comforting and surprising. Mihail’s seafood creations are not just meals, but experiences. Each dish infuses the natural flavours of the sea, from succulent oysters and tender scallops to hearty fish dishes and elegantly seafood linguine, amazing seafood platters, grilled lobsters and many more.

All of this is beautifully presented by Alina, our Restaurant Manager who is a warm and attentive hostess with a keen eye for detail. She effortlessly combines her professionalism with a friendly, welcoming demeanor ensuring every guest feels valued and at home. Alina’s dedication to excellence and her passion for hospitality make her an exceptional leader and a fundamental part of our team.
